    A Warm Night for a B&B
By: James A. B.

I often overlook the special aroma that you feel at a B&B and tend to just jump straight to the idea of a hotel/motel typical places of stay on travels and other various vacations.I’m going to start broadening my horizons looking for more cozier options, more ma and pop type of places.Sure it may be more costlier but you have a sense that A: your doing some good with your money for the family, B: the Atmosphere at these types of places you can’t find in a hotel and C: the Service is usually spectacular, because, well, they actually care about your stay as opposed to a 15 yr old bell hop whom throws your luggage around like a football. All to conclude, B&B’s are cool and so are the more rustic options out there as opposed to your typical “Ramada Inn”.

    Fashion Scares Me
Continuing my journey in learning as much as I can about retouching from many greats out there…
But I need practice!  So if you want your photo taken and composited in various ways including this one for your own use, let me know, I’d be glad to give it a whack!

All Points Lead to the Needle
“They say” that in composition it is a good idea to have your subject pointed out such as in leading lines or having elements in your environment point to your primary subject. Well that is precisely what I tried to do in this photo… By the way who are “They” anyway….
So take a look- the edge of the architectural building points to the needle, the trees at the top left point to the needle, the two shiny pillars point to the needle, even the trees in the background and the path of the sidewalk all point, and lead the eye to the needle… Accident? I think not. High-res

    Does Practice Really make Perfect?
I have been practicing more with my compositions lately, especially when it comes to portraits and landscape photography. One classic composition style is to have leading lines within your photo and if you can have those lines lead to something magnificent then your creating a quality photo.
Well it is common but this evening in Seattle I had to take much of the most glorious opportunity to take some night photos, because A: there were finally very interesting clouds in seattle (very rare- usually its just a straight blanket of clouds) and B: there was a pretty intense sunset happening. Now typically in Seattle you can find interesting things all around you but they are usually walking around (if you know what I mean). Seattle is just like any old city with sky scrapers and automobiles every where. So when I ran across this architectural gem I had to figure out how to make a decent shot of it. So, none other, did I practice the compositional rule of leading lines.
I hope you enjoyed it. High-res

    Anyone Else Dream of Flying?
Are we confined by our fear? does it define us? does it control us? does it make us who we are today?  Are you not a traveler because of fear? Are you not a millionaire because you didn’t invent that idea you had three years ago that just surged the Market today in the Dow? Why are you Controlled?  You are an Independent individual that makes decisions both scarey and safe.  Don’t you think that it’s time to put away what scares you and Do.  Once you Do and Do enough times, you will soon be so custom to what you thought was so scarey that you will be looking for the next goal the next hierarchy in the chain of your wants and accomplishments.  I believe that all things are possible.  But I also believe that You initiate all things that are Possible.  Moral of the Story:  Get Off Your Couch and Make Your Dreams Come True.

Take Your Head Out of the Camera~
Sometimes I find myself embraced, gone, all together lost within my visions, thoughts and ideas.  The ideas aren’t always creative either, thoughts like why is this person doing “this” or “that” whether I think it to be logical or plainly doesn’t make sense is irrelevant to them actually doing it.  I beleive people have this perspective of me at… no, most of the times.  Cause I often have a blank stare happening, but boy if you were to look in my mind wheels are turning faster than a rat wheel.  A mouse wheel would have probably been more pleasing to read…. hm.  So, the expression take your head out of the camera exists for me when those moments occur.  like, Jim, jim, snap out of it.  Often I do think about new ways to light things, new ways to set up stuff, and interesting ideas that most likely revolve around the camera.
The Photo:
Is in Mt. Rainier National Park, and turning this bend in the trail I thought man, this trail looks as if I am going to walk right in to the sun if I keep going.  Loved it.  May be a little hot there, so I just took a pic of it.  Some  haters out there don’t like Lens Flare, to me I think this authentic showing if it (meaning not photoshopped) really makes the photo pop and add interest,  but thats just my in-camera thought… Whats your in-Camera thought?? I Would Be…
I would be a Poet, I would be a Singer-Songwriter, I would be fluent with words at speaking engagements, I would be a Painter, I would be a sketch Artist, I would be a Graffiti Guru, I would be mountain climber, I would be a fighter of causes, I would be kayaker, I would be a swimmer, I would be a World Traveler, I would be a Nobel Prize Winner, I would have an Oprah Sticker on my Book, I would be a Rock Climber, I would be Road Biker (bicycling), I would Passionate if Only I….
What Holds us Back? I suppose if I excelled at all these things, time would not be an issue with me, sleep would not be needed and food was only a substance I thought about from time and again.  I think I would be a machine.  How often do we all have so many interests, so many desires, so many things we want to accompish to the point where it feels like an overload!  We feel exhausted and end up doing nothing.  Or watching someone else do one of these things to the point of perfection and saying to ourselves “I want to do that” and then watching someone else do something to the point of perfection, us then thinking “why can’t I do THESE things” truth is we can’t.  We are not Machines, we can’t master everything.  Finding our passion and sticking with it is the hardest thing any one of us can do.  I think after 28 years, I have found my passion.  My Realistic Passion.  Traveling, Photography, little Writings.  So what if I’m not Shakespeare, Monet or Bono.  I can only do so much and I am happy with that.   Are You Happy? Pixel Bending Magic or an Oil Painting?
I’d like to think and perhaps even fantasize that I could do an oil painting such as this.  The detail, the curves, the way the wheat just speaks to you in riddles about autumn and peace.  Well truth be told this is a photo of this scene on the side of the road and I did some pixel bending magic from photoshop to make it the way it is.  Cheating? perhaps, but I think even Monet and Van Gough would think its cool then immediately slap me across the face.  I have a long time ahead of me before my photos begin to look like a Monet impressionist painting, but I would like to hope that the day is out there in the future some time. Enter Title Here: Are We Judged or Do we Just Judge Ourselves?
We always seem to worry about what would people think if I do this or if I do that? And then we think, oh, if I do this, then THEY will think that.  Or “man, I can’t do that because People would think this….” Would they? truly, would they?  Are we judged just as bad as American Idol thinks we are.  Does Simon Cowell go around judging what people where on the street all the time?  I have to argue that I don’t think so.  Are We Judged or Do We Just Judge Ourselves?  Again I argue that we just judge ourselves.  We are so confused on who we are that we think in every action we think we are going to be judged upon it.  This is until we finally realize that we don’t care what other people think… OR is it just that we don’t care what we think and we’re just going to do it anyway.  Turn your mind off.  We can think  anything to death.  Even in entering this title I had to think what are people going to think, more, what do I think? am I satisfied with this title? Does it stab the point across?  So the next time you judge someone, ask them did you wonder if someone would think This: ____________________ .  Let me know what they say… oh and here’s a tissue for that bloody nose. Color, Music and Movement
The path is short “they say” to total enlightenment, contentment, and complete ability to have a life worth smiling about.  I think it starts with identifying some true emotions and aspirations.  But to identify these we have to break things down.  What are we all about? A common icebreaker is list three words that describe you.  I say list three words that identifies you.  Words that are adjectives that describes what you do every day, day in and day out that brings you that smile of total contentment.  For me, you guessed it, is Color, Music and Movement.  Not descriptive words that describe me like loving, caring blah blah blah that we can never completely live up to as we are all fallen short of being perfect.  So do yourselves a favor and list your identifiers in the comments below.  Think longer than three seconds about it too!  ha.
Color, Music, Movement
This picture was chosen for this post because I believe it shows those three identifiers.  Color in the vastness of the color presented, Music in the way that it flows up to the sky- yea, I’m stretching it there.  And lastly Movement, cause our eyes move all around the photo.  Perhaps this is why I like this picture a lot? Lets push back the Snow and Bring on the Beach!
Imagine with me… A hammock… A Beach… A Cold Bevarage… Some Pretty people waving big leaves to cool you down… Some amazing “beach” music like Bob Marley… and lastly some calming clatter in and about people laughing and joking around.  Now aren’t you relaxed???
Sometimes When a day has been going not as I have planned.  Sometimes I just look up and watch a plane sore through the air and imagine what it would be like to be on that plane and go down to a tropical paradise.  Forget work, forget responsibilities and just go!  Worry about the rest later.  For some reason this helps and I continue in my work, continue in my responsibilities but with a skip in my step.  At least it’ll have a little more skip than it did 10 minutes ago without my daydream.
This was taken on St. John Island on a remote beach where you can reach only by hiking or swimming to it from your boat.  They would have hammocks all through out for anyone to use.  Let me just say I used it often… maybe without the pretty people waving big leaves to cool me down but it was still nice without the leaves. Apparently Square Shots are Coming Back
I wasn’t aware of this return to the market of Square Shots in Photography.  But now with all of these iPhone Apps like Hipstamatic, Adobe Photoshop editor for iPhone, etc it appears I better start croppin some of these shots.  And Actually it has been pretty fun!  To find different compositions within an already decent photo really makes certain features of the photo “pop” as they say in the photography world.  Everything is about the “pop” in photography its kinda funny really.  I always think of soda but ok, pop- Sounds Good.
So what do you think of Square Photography?  is it something your interested in?  I don’t really see the market for it.  And its really the oldies but goodies in photography that like the square shots.  Its also these people that like Film and Hate photoshop that are into it, so it appears.  So lemme know what you think!
Cheers! High-res
