A New Gallery has Finally Arrived!

Why did I make the switch from Etsy Selling platform to Smugmug?  Well, first off Etsy seems to be all artsy and crafty and a seemingly reasonable way to get your product out to buyers but the hidden truth is that it is not much better than trying to sell on Facebook.

Etsy tends to support those that are highly involved in Etsy, they promote you if you have a billion product listings, is that fair? No.  To have one listing may seem cheap at 20 cents, but what happens when someone buys it? well, you have to re-list it.  Oh and they take a good 12% of the total value of the product including shipping charges.  So in the end you have to over charge your customers, Who wants to do that in This Economy?? Not me.

So I moved to Smugmug, whoa the freedom, the flexibility, its a selling platform I have always wished for.  So goodbye Etsy and Hello Smuggers!

    Destructional Beauty
I don’t believe beauty can be destroyed nor do I think it should be attempted but in a world that seems to find its own good in things that often destroys things, beauty now has to become more open minded. Like in wars, forest fires, drugs, etc scary.
This is not your typical “beauty” composite and I was just playing around seeing what ideas were gonna perk up..
hope all is having a Wonderful Day High-res

All Points Lead to the Needle
“They say” that in composition it is a good idea to have your subject pointed out such as in leading lines or having elements in your environment point to your primary subject. Well that is precisely what I tried to do in this photo… By the way who are “They” anyway….
So take a look- the edge of the architectural building points to the needle, the trees at the top left point to the needle, the two shiny pillars point to the needle, even the trees in the background and the path of the sidewalk all point, and lead the eye to the needle… Accident? I think not. High-res

    Does Practice Really make Perfect?
I have been practicing more with my compositions lately, especially when it comes to portraits and landscape photography. One classic composition style is to have leading lines within your photo and if you can have those lines lead to something magnificent then your creating a quality photo.
Well it is common but this evening in Seattle I had to take much of the most glorious opportunity to take some night photos, because A: there were finally very interesting clouds in seattle (very rare- usually its just a straight blanket of clouds) and B: there was a pretty intense sunset happening. Now typically in Seattle you can find interesting things all around you but they are usually walking around (if you know what I mean). Seattle is just like any old city with sky scrapers and automobiles every where. So when I ran across this architectural gem I had to figure out how to make a decent shot of it. So, none other, did I practice the compositional rule of leading lines.
I hope you enjoyed it. High-res

    Tough to Tell
I think one of the many things that is challenging for a photographer these days is “editing the pics” not necessarily post processing but editing in terms of picking out the “Best” images to display to the world.
From perusing flickr, google +, etc I see that some have mastered this and from perusing my own catalogue I see that I have much to learn and much to practice.
It is a practice and an art to display a picture that just works that only took 3 minutes to post process and then an image that you’ve been trying so hard to “just work” for hours maybe even days that you post that you should have never posted. When it works it works, and you shouldn’t have to think very hard about it—- thats what this pic was, it just worked. I felt like I needed to do so much to it - just because, thats what we do as photogs, but why? when it works it works, the end. High-res

    Branching Off of Yesterday
Branching off of the motif of my Seattle Weekend. Here is a classic reflection off of the Seattle Space Center of the ever more impressive landmark of the Seattle Space Needle.
It was of course a reasonably clear night in Seattle. And anyone from here would tell you that either you have Too Many Clouds in Seattle or Not Enough of Them… here is a case of not enough of them. So I tried my darndest to get the most of the frame here in this pic with what I had from the environments. High-res

    Monsoon Rains to Sunshine Skies
This weekend me and the Lady went up to seattle, Why? Well this weekend was the only Sun we’ve seen in the past 3 or 70 weeks!?!? its been doom n gloom around here. So what better than making a weekend out of it. The sun was out, the heat was raging awesome at a cool but warm 70+ degrees. My burns on my forehead state that it was a pleasant weekend outside
This photo is the first edited photo from the weekend. I finally was able to take the Nikon D800 outside and play due to the decent weather… I know its “weather sealed” but I didn’t want to take the chance in the monsoon rains we’ve been having.
So far I am loving this cam. High-res

    Anyone Else Dream of Flying?
Are we confined by our fear? does it define us? does it control us? does it make us who we are today?  Are you not a traveler because of fear? Are you not a millionaire because you didn’t invent that idea you had three years ago that just surged the Market today in the Dow? Why are you Controlled?  You are an Independent individual that makes decisions both scarey and safe.  Don’t you think that it’s time to put away what scares you and Do.  Once you Do and Do enough times, you will soon be so custom to what you thought was so scarey that you will be looking for the next goal the next hierarchy in the chain of your wants and accomplishments.  I believe that all things are possible.  But I also believe that You initiate all things that are Possible.  Moral of the Story:  Get Off Your Couch and Make Your Dreams Come True.

Time to Snuggle up and Get Cozy
The warm tones in this photo offer the idea that all you need now is some hot chocolate, a fire in the fireplace, nice tunes playing, a pretty so and so next to ya and a log cabin… There, if you have all that, you have perfection and should just celebrate your life right now.  I am close to all those things, hm, maybe I should look at it as a form of a check list or something.  I love that relaxing, cozy feeling.
This photo was taken of a log Cabin up by Mt. Rainier, it was after a long 15 mile hike and of course after stopping every 5 feet to take photos (and to catch my breath) it naturally took forever to get through the hike, but gotta say, I like the turn out and I hope you do too.  If you click on the photo and see the original on my Etsy Page you can see the star shift indicating how long A: the shutter speed was and also the earth’s tilt.  Pretty cool stuff.  High-res

Let’s Reminisce Christmas for a Moment, Shall we?
I love this time of year, its funny how its among the most stressful time of year, but with the perfect balance of sugar from all the cookies and bing crosby singing some odd melodies that we for some reason think make the most sense are uplifting.  After listening to Frosty the Snowman, I’m like, I’m 28 and I like this… is there something wrong with me?  Then I step outside and I hear other older than me humming even a stranger song like that Hippopotamus song, we listen to this stuff and we think thats ok/normal is that not weird to anyone else? Don’t even get me started on putting a live, huge tree in your house this post may get to be pages long. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas time and all it has to bring.  It is the best time of the year, just funny how the traditions are and how they came about.  Its just funny how it seems that the public masked its stress with sugar and upbeat n’ uplifting tones…
Monochrome
This photo was taken at Gas Works which is oddly enough a park in Seattle.  Best view of Seattle in my opinion and the best place to bring a special lady ;-) especially at dusk.  Just be sure not to forget the blanket… High-res

Looks Like its That Time of Year Again
Did you think that since its Now April, I was going to be ordinary and throw up a Nice Spring-like scene?  Oh No way Jose… Yea, thats right I said it.  I’m a sucker for the sunset, and oh, so is the rest of the world.  So my interest and my visions are moving on it seems.  I love Character Portraits and any photo with people.  People are amazing, I think its God’s greatest achievements even though there is so much hate and destruction in the world.  I think we are Brilliant Beings.. Anyway, I digress.  I am going to start my venture into character portraits and studio style photography along with shooting for advertising if need be.  I find works by Dave Hill to be truly Mesmerizing (davehill.com) as well as Dean Bradshaw (deanbradshaw.com.au) yea, hes even an Aussie so he automatically gets.. well .. two points in my book.   And just general fashion stylized photography such as Jaime Ibarra’s work (his site is ibarraphoto.com) which always gets me green with envy.  His style is so beautiful and can make the must natural looking thought provoking composites.  Well anyway, this is my start and my shout out to say hey I’m exploring, and well, I’m an explorer, so Please Ride this Train with Me. Am I an Author? Are You?
Just because I write on this post, and on posts before and posts for the future, does this mean I’m an author?  Certainly not a good one, but an author at that.  Does that make you an author? Does that make my letter to my Mother when I was 5 years old a work of art?  She may think so, and probably still has it but does that make anyone with a pen an author?  Cause technically anything written, anywhere is “published”… That just makes me think.  I looked up the other day that now anyone can self publish a book, I thought wow how cool is that? but, wait, doesn’t that defeat the purpose? just because there is access doesn’t mean we should have more words floating in the air that as useless as the last.   Before I make this post just as useless, I will shut up and let you think about those words.
The Child Holds a Dream
I can’t help but think about that little girl in this museum seen way into the frame by the furthest wall in the photo.  What moment is she having? is this the moment that she decides to be an artist of some form? is this the moment where she begins her inspiration for art and its capabilities on the world and on people?  Is this the moment that she will never forget and always strives for again?  I like to think so.  Oddly enough she probably complained and argued to try and get her way to go to Chuck E Cheese today instead of a Museum cause honestly, what kid wants to go to a museum?  That’s why this girl struck me; I hope shes doing well and while on a swing at school thinking about her time at the Seattle Art Museum.
