Anyone Else Dream of Flying?

 (James Beyer)

Are we confined by our fear? does it define us? does it control us? does it make us who we are today?  Are you not a traveler because of fear? Are you not a millionaire because you didn’t invent that idea you had three years ago that just surged the Market today in the Dow? Why are you Controlled?  You are an Independent individual that makes decisions both scarey and safe.  Don’t you think that it’s time to put away what scares you and Do.  Once you Do and Do enough times, you will soon be so custom to what you thought was so scarey that you will be looking for the next goal the next hierarchy in the chain of your wants and accomplishments.  I believe that all things are possible.  But I also believe that You initiate all things that are Possible.  Moral of the Story:  Get Off Your Couch and Make Your Dreams Come True.

I Just got off mine…

Time to Snuggle up and Get Cozy

 (James Beyer)

The warm tones in this photo offer the idea that all you need now is some hot chocolate, a fire in the fireplace, nice tunes playing, a pretty so and so next to ya and a log cabin… There, if you have all that, you have perfection and should just celebrate your life right now.  I am close to all those things, hm, maybe I should look at it as a form of a check list or something.  I love that relaxing, cozy idea.

This photo was taken of a log Cabin up by Mt. Rainier, it was after a long 15 mile hike and of course after stopping every 5 feet to take photos (and to catch my breath) it naturally took forever to get through the hike, but gotta say, I like the turn out and I hope you do too.  If you click on the photo and see the original on my Gallery Page you can see the star shift indicating how long A: the shutter speed was and also the earth’s tilt.  Pretty cool stuff.

Christmas Time- Time to Sing and Eat

 (James Beyer)

I love this time of year, its funny how its among the most stressful time of year, but with the perfect balance of sugar from all the cookies and bing crosby singing some odd melodies that we for some reason think make the most sense are uplifting.  After listening to Frosty the Snowman, I’m like, I’m 28 and I like this… is there something wrong with me?  Then I step outside and I hear other older than me humming even a stranger song like that Hippopotamus song, we listen to this stuff and we think thats ok/normal is that not weird to anyone else? Don’t even get me started on putting a live, huge tree in your house this post may get to be pages long.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas time and all it has to bring.  It is the best time of the year, just funny how the traditions are and how they came about.  Its just funny how it seems that the public masked its stress with sugar and upbeat n’ uplifting tones…

Monochrome

This photo was taken at Gas Works which is oddly enough a park in Seattle.  Best view of Seattle in my opinion and the best place to bring a special lady ;) especially at dusk.  Just be sure not to forget the blanket…

Looks Like its That Time of Year Again

 (James Beyer)

Did you think that since its Now December, I was going to be ordinary and throw up a snowy scene?  Oh No way Jose… Yea, thats right I said it.  I’m a sucker for the sunset, and oh, so is the rest of the world.  So my interest and my visions are moving on it seems.  I love Character Portraits and any photo with people.  People are amazing, I think its God’s greatest achievements even though there is so much hate and destruction in the world.  I think we are Brilliant Beings.. Anyway, I digress.  I am going to start my venture into character portraits and studio style photography along with shooting for advertising if need be.  I find works by Dave Hill to be truly Mesmerizing (davehill.com) as well as Dean Bradshaw (deanbradshaw.com.au) yea, hes even an Aussie so he automatically gets.. well .. two points in my book.   And just general fashion stylized photography such as Jaime Ibarra’s work (his site is ibarraphoto.com) which always gets me green with envy.  His style is so beautiful and can make the must natural looking thought provoking composites.  Well anyway, this is my start and my shout out to say hey I’m exploring, and well, I’m an explorer, so Please Ride this Train with Me.

Am I an Author? Are you?

 (James Beyer)

Just because I write on this post, and on posts before and posts for the future, does this mean I’m an author?  Certainly not a good one, but an author at that.  Does that make you an author? Does that make my letter to my Mother when I was 5 years old a work of art?  She may think so, and probably still has it but does that make anyone with a pen an author?  Cause technically anything written, anywhere is “published”… That just makes me think.  I looked up the other day that now anyone can self publish a book, I thought wow how cool is that? but, wait, doesn’t that defeat the purpose? just because there is access doesn’t mean we should have more words floating in the air that as useless as the last.   Before I make this post just as useless, I will shut up and let you think about those words.

The Child Holds a Dream

I can’t help but think about that little girl in this museum seen way into the frame by the furthest wall in the photo.  What moment is she having? is this the moment that she decides to be an artist of some form? is this the moment where she begins her inspiration for art and its capabilities on the world and on people?  Is this the moment that she will never forget and always strives for again?  I like to think so.  Oddly enough she probably complained and argued to try and get her way to go to Chuck E Cheese today instead of a Museum cause honestly, what kid wants to go to a museum?  That’s why this girl struck me; I hope shes doing well and while on a swing at school thinking about her time at the Seattle Art Museum.

Take Your Head out of the Camera

 (James Beyer)

Sometimes I find myself embraced, gone, all together lost within my visions, thoughts and ideas.  The ideas aren’t always creative either, thoughts like why is this person doing “this” or “that” whether I think it to be logical or plainly doesn’t make sense is irrelevant to them actually doing it.  I beleive people have this perspective of me at… no, most of the times.  Cause I often have a blank stare happening, but boy if you were to look in my mind wheels are turning faster than a rat wheel.  A mouse wheel would have probably been more pleasing to read…. hm.  So, the expression take your head out of the camera exists for me when those moments occur.  like, Jim, jim, snap out of it.  Often I do think about new ways to light things, new ways to set up stuff, and interesting ideas that most likely revolve around the camera.

The Photo:

Is in Mt. Rainier National Park, and turning this bend in the trail I thought man, this trail looks as if I am going to walk right in to the sun if I keep going.  Loved it.  May be a little hot there, so I just took a pic of it.  Some  haters out there don’t like Lens Flare, to me I think this authentic showing if it (meaning not photoshopped) really makes the photo pop and add interest,  but thats just my in-camera thought… Whats your in-Camera thought???

Spooky, Halloweeny Time… BOO!

Pretty soon the internet will be filled with photos of themselves and others in their Halloween costume.  Costumes of all kinds, cutesy, raunchy, slutty, normal, superheros, you name it, you’ll see it.  And now more than ever is there access to publish these costumed people all over the internet with phones (even the cheap ones) having the camera function to upload your social media site of choice.  Many phones now you can literally take a picture and it automatically goes on to flickr, or facebook and so forth.  I am not against this, I am just fathomed by the amount of people that will post this to the internet for all to see!  Just think of it, there will be more photos of that this year 2011 than Ever before.  Last year you may think there was a lot.  But this year, there will be more as people have gotten older or more advanced technologically with their phones or cameras or knowledge of computers and internet to get it on there quickly and without much thought.  Privacy? whats that? but ask any medical worker and its the most important topic in the industry… Kind of ironic if you ask me… People/Patients have no problem or posting obscene and crazy pictures on the internet- But at the doctors office if you tell others my Birth date I will SUE!  Anyway, Have fun everyone and Be Safe… And be sure to upload for all to see!  its the Age of the Internet shall no eye go unseen.  oh and…

Happy Halloween!

oh and I’ll be dressed up as this, if you’re looking for me…

Freedom Through Music

 (James Beyer)

Insight into the Soul?

Just ask any Rapper and they will tell you that, no what they sing about is often times not what their lifestyle is like or who they are, they’ll tell you that its all about the “image” … image? I thought it was about the music.  The melody, the carefully alignment of words and instruments.  At least that is what I love about music.  The old school Bright Eyes music from his Teenage Years was inspiration for my adult-hood.  How is that possible?  How can this “Kid” reach into this realm of maturity and thought that can gather information and enlightenment well beyond his years? I don’t know, but its a great example regarding how what may be inspirational to you can be also to any number of people and that there are No Limits to what you can accomplish.

Music for me is a gateway to a much needed place that provides me with a certain peace and serenity that I need Daily, or else I think I’ll go nutso.  Anyway you can check out my “Freedom Through Music” gallery on the link in blue.   There are more photos for that Gallery Coming, they are sitting in my “to be processed” folder in lightroom numbering now close to 3,000… I”m starting to feel like a profession photog as I’m becoming more and more backed up on my photo processing … there is just not enough hours in the day I tell ya.

I Would Be…

What Would You Be?

I would be a Poet, I would be a Singer-Songwriter, I would be fluent with words at speaking engagements, I would be a Painter, I would be a sketch Artist, I would be a Graffiti Guru, I would be mountain climber, I would be a fighter of causes, I would be kayaker, I would be a swimmer, I would be a World Traveler, I would be a Nobel Prize Winner, I would have an Oprah Sticker on my Book, I would be a Rock Climber, I would be Road Biker (bicycling), I would Passionate if Only I….

What Holds us Back? I suppose if I excelled at all these things, time would not be an issue with me, sleep would not be needed and food was only a substance I thought about from time and again.  I think I would be a machine.  How often do we all have so many interests, so many desires, so many things we want to accompish to the point where it feels like an overload!  We feel exhausted and end up doing nothing.  Or watching someone else do one of these things to the point of perfection and saying to ourselves “I want to do that” and then watching someone else do something to the point of perfection, us then thinking “why can’t I do THESE things” truth is we can’t.  We are not Machines, we can’t master everything.  Finding our passion and sticking with it is the hardest thing any one of us can do.  I think after 28 years, I have found my passion.  My Realistic Passion.  Traveling, Photography, little Writings.  So what if I’ m not Shakespeare, Monet or Bono.  I can only do so much and I am happy with that.   Are You Happy?

Water Needs All over the World.

 (James Beyer)

Water Needs all Across the World

The thought that there are people out there that have nothing safe to drink for days, make me want to get up and do something.  The thought that there are people that openly risk their lives and drink parasite infested waters just to survive a few more months or maybe just days make me wonder how can we ever complain about anything.  Really, anything.  We are so fortunate as Americans to have Fresh Water, sure we have our problems, just turn on the news, anywhere and it will be filled with our “problems” but problems such as water needs to be known.

The 3-D Effects of Color and Alignment

In photography it is very easy to take away color and add color where you see fit.  Basically adding attention, direction and vision towards what you want the viewers to see.  Just by adding and taking away color.  Also aligning your photo in such a way that the frame of the picture suggests your eyes to see certain things that you may want to direct attention to.  Event Photog’s have to do this on a photo by photo basis.  I’m glad I don’t necessarily have to think of the sciences of the eye on each photo but honestly, at times I do.

Pixel Bending Magic or an Oil Painting?

 (James Beyer)

I’d like to think and perhaps even fantasize that I could do an oil painting such as this.  The detail, the curves, the way the wheat just speaks to you in riddles about autumn and peace.  Well truth be told this is a photo of this scene on the side of the road and I did some pixel bending magic from photoshop to make it the way it is.  Cheating? perhaps, but I think even Monet and Van Gough would think its cool then immediately slap me across the face.  I have a long time ahead of me before my photos begin to look like a Monet impressionist painting, but I would like to hope that the day is out there in the future some time.

A Geyser Filled Event at Yellowstone National Park

 (James Beyer)

The thought of Yellowstone National Park as an Event is sort of confusing.  It should feel better than that.  Or seems like you’d want more from that? and/or how can a place be an event.  But after walking around, seeing animals that you never see anywhere else, hills, valleys and random water-looking splashes pop and stream out of the ground let me tell you, its an event.  You go there looking to be entertained, enlightened, and wow’d!  I was wow’d at the very site of any hole spewing water-like substances out of the ground.  Then the Color that would be growing on the ground was so fascinating.  I would go to say that what wasn’t fascinating was the smell.  It was as if millions of eggs the size of dinosaurs were rotting all over the place.  And with each intake of breath you think “is this the last breath I’ll ever take?”

Anyway, it was a nice day for a walk, of course as a photographer, I wished that the sky was more dramatic, but when you only have a day to get it, you’ll take what you can get.  Hope you enjoy it.

The First Blog Post About a Panoramic Shot

 (RDphotos = sFLMSr)

These look so cool big, on a medium that you can actually see the entire picture.  I don’t have that medium, clearly.   This image is actually somewhere near 344MB for ONE image, usually an image – if you don’t know – at high resolution is 5 to 8MB.  So I had to cut this down just to get it in here.  If you were to print it all the details would be there, clear, sharp, and the depth of field would be so intense that you’d feel you’re actually there, a typical panorama size is 20 x 60 or 1 x 3 in some shape or form or in this case size.

So this was at the Badlands National Park. This was the shot I took that I almost fell off the cliff on.  I was swinging the camera around on the tripod and of course I was swinging with it forgetting that I was on the edge of the cliff so I can get some of the foreground cut out from the shot.   Down I would’ve went and yelled GERONIMOOOOO!! But just at the last moment God and or His angels came and grabbed my foot and stuck it firmly in the ground and held my balance.  Thank You.  Cause I should have fallen 300 feet to my presumable death.

Enter Title Here: Are We Judged or Do We Just Judge Ourselves

 (James Beyer)

We always seem to worry about what would people think if I do this or if I do that? And then we think, oh, if I do this, then THEY will think that.  Or “man, I can’t do that because People would think this….” Would they? truly, would they?  Are we judged just as bad as American Idol thinks we are.  Does Simon Cowell go around judging what people where on the street all the time?  I have to argue that I don’t think so.  Are We Judged or Do We Just Judge Ourselves?  Again I argue that we just judge ourselves.  We are so confused on who we are that we think in every action we think we are going to be judged upon it.  This is until we finally realize that we don’t care what other people think… OR is it just that we don’t care what we think and we’re just going to do it anyway.  Turn your mind off.  We can think  anything to death.  Even in entering this title I had to think what are people going to think, more, what do I think? am I satisfied with this title? Does it stab the point across?  So the next time you judge someone, ask them did you wonder if someone would think This: ____________________ .  Let me know what they say… oh and here’s a tissue for that bloody nose.

Do people Still Dig the Electric Slide?

Music frees the Mind and unleashes the Soul (Raining Dreams Photography)

I don’t think I’d be doing the Electric Slide here at the National Concert.  But I would be sliding around like its my business.  And let me just tell ya, business is good on the eve of this concert.  If you haven’t heard of the National yet, well you should.  Of course no hardcore photog gear was allowed into this venue, so I rocked my iPhone and quite literally rocked it too!  One of the best concerts I’ve been to in a long time.  And it wasn’t because of the flashy, smash, bang electronics, it was because of plain and simple the Music alone was amazing!  Have you found now, concerts aren’t becoming about the music anymore, it seems to be about something so much more different, not bad, but different.  Its not JUST dudes and instruments sounding amazing anymore, its a Show.  Almost like a lightening show with flames and things that turn and make our eyes pop and oh yea, the music is pretty good too…. hmmm, I don’t know—- What do you think?

Color, Music, and Movement

 (RDphotos = sFLMSr)

The path is short “they say” to total enlightenment, contentment, and complete ability to have a life worth smiling about.  I think it starts with identifying some true emotions and aspirations.  But to identify these we have to break things down.  What are we all about? A common icebreaker is list three words that describe you.  I say list three words that identifies you.  Words that are adjectives that describes what you do every day, day in and day out that brings you that smile of total contentment.  For me, you guessed it, is Color, Music and Movement.  Not descriptive words that describe me like loving, caring blah blah blah that we can never completely live up to as we are all fallen short of being perfect.  So do yourselves a favor and list your identifiers in the comments below.  Think longer than three seconds about it too!  ha.

Color, Music, Movement.

this picture was chosen for this post because I believe it shows those three identifiers.  Color in the vastness of the color presented, Music in the way that it flows up to the sky- yea, I’m stretching it there.  And lastly Movement, cause our eyes move all around the photo.  Perhaps this is why I like this picture a lot?

Thought I’d Never Do it… but

I am now on Twitter… You can now follow the dream: http://twitter.com/James_A_B.   This will allow you to see all sorts of amazing things!

Soon I will be on Google+ as well… I’ll do those social networking sites, then see what happens.  Trying to market more.  I mean the price is right so why not?

Its Photo Time!

This Photo is from Glacier National Park.  It was a perfect day for photo taking.  Of course this picture was “doctored” a tiny bit.  Just to make it slightly warmer.

A Van Down by the River

 (James Beyer)

Do you think this elk is a motivational speaker like Matt Foley?  Perhaps he tries to inspire other Elk, hey, its possible.  They communicate with each other, somehow.  Think this elk has what elk calls a van?  think its down by the river?  I think so.  Why not?  Chris Farley made this famous, maybe this elk is making that famous.  Or maybe he’s just getting a quick bite to eat on this lovely afternoon?  I don’t think you can see it in this picture but there was another elk laying there, taking a nap.  I could use a nap.

Anyway, this was in Yellowstone National Park.  Must go and check it out sometime but for now check out my gallery called Yellowstone National Park, that works too.

The Two Coolest Cars on the Face of this Earth

 (James Beyer)

That’s Right.. the search is over…  It is often wondered, which are the coolest cars in the world.  Well, search no more.  The Jeep Wrangler and the Nissan Juke is the answer to this long lengthy wonder of the coolest cars on the face of this earth.  Why, no, I am not Biased.  I bought the Jeep because it is the coolest, I wouldn’t have bought it if it wasn’t.  And Cait bought the Juke because it is the raddest.  So Naturally these would then be the two coolest cars on the face of the earth.

Well being that I’m pretty gungho about my car and Cait is pretty  gung- well if not More gungho about her car I thought it would be only appropriate to make a post specifically to our hot wheels.  I suppose our cars were fighting on this particular day being that they were so far apart.  But thanks to my wide-angle lens I was able to capture them both together.  As far as I know they have reconciled and are now talking again….

now you be good boys n girls.
